Hemsö is set to develop a new elementary school and kindergarten in Helsinki’s Northern Pasila district for 850 students under a 20-year lease with the City of Helsinki. The project, replacing temporary facilities, offers 7,200 square meters of leasable area and a 3,400 square meter schoolyard, accommodating 650 elementary students and 200 kindergarten children.
Hemsö, which won the City’s lease procurement, is collaborating closely with local authorities. Project Manager Kirsi Viheriäranta highlighted the strong partnership and shared expertise from previous projects. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, with a two-year timeline, and the building will meet an A energy class rating by integrating sustainable technologies such as geothermal heating, air-water heat pumps, and solar panels. This marks Hemsö’s fifth educational project with the City of Helsinki, adding to a total of 2,800 new school places developed in recent years.
